NELSON MANDELA

When Nelson Mandela raised his voice against racism he was sent to prison for life.

Yet, even after spending 27 years in prison, Nelson Mandela’s resolve to defy and fight racial injustice was not broken.

“Everyone can rise above their circumstances if they are passionate about what they do”

After he was released in 1990, Mandela helped negotiate an end to apartheid. For his struggle to end ‘apartheid’ he received the Nobel peace price in 1993.

On 10 May 1994 he became the first democratically elected president of South Africa.

Nelson Mandela died on 5 December 2013.

WHY IS NELSON MANDELA A HERO OF HOPE FOR US?

For more than 27 years, whilst imprisoned by the aprtheid regime, he never gave up hope to make a positive impact on the world. And look how he changed the World! We are hoping that he will continue to serve as an inspiration for our current and new heroes of Hope.

In honour of Nelson Mandela, in 2021 we organised our official launch of Stories of Hope on his birth date, 18 July.
